Together with the late Sir Fred Hoyle, Chandra Wickramasinghe developed ideas that connect astronomy and biology. These two scientists can legitimately be seen as pioneers of the new discipline of astrobiology.
Universities throughout the world are beginning to see astrobiology as a way forward to understand our place in the Universe.
Taking note of the many relevant discoveries that have been made in recent years, the Centre aims to combine the expertise of astronomers, biochemists and microbiologists to generate cutting edge science that will eventually enable us to answer the age-old question: where did we come from?
